Peru: Issuing ministerial resolution to establish dynamic forum in Machu Picchu requested

11:14 | Cusco (Cusco), Apr. 6.

The arrival of more than 16,000 tourists —both domestic and foreign ones— to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu during the long Holy Week holiday left a pleasant impression on the Machu Picchu Management Unit (UGM) so as to implement the dynamic capacity initiative.

UGM Technical Secretary Uber Quisocala reported that the massive entry of visitors to the wonder was verified on site, a preamble to what might be the dynamic capacity, which was set and approved at 5,600 daily visits.

To comply with this capacity, the official urged the Culture Ministry to issue a ministerial resolution that establishes the figure and parameters, which the UGM Steering Committee will formally do on April 12.

The Culture Ministry reported that a total of 16,082 tourists, domestic and foreign ones, visited Machu Picchu during the recent long holiday, according to a report issued by the Machu Picchu Archaeological Park managing department.

According to this report, 4,033 visitors entered Machu Picchu on March 28; followed by 4,075 (March 29); 4,112 (March 30); and a total of 3,862 visitors (March 31).

"What you saw during the Holy Week is somewhat partial; formal tourism leads to advance planning," the official said, in reference to the possibility that more tourists might arrive in the coming months, as they enter the high season that begins at end-May.

"We must have something clear throughout the year; we are asking that they issue a resolution which defines what is experienced in June seasons during the Cusco Festival and Corpus Christi," he affirmed, referring to the fact that multiple religious and cultural activities are also approaching, which visitors like.

Deficiencies to overcome

Likewise, Quiscocala referred to the fact that some deficiencies in the transportation system during Holy Week could be overcome.

Data

The dynamic capacity —as announced on February 17— begins on June 1 and will last until October 15, as well as during some national holidays, which will be defined and approved at a meeting with the UGM.

The increase in the dynamic capacity, from 4,044 visits (Ministerial Resolution No. 000255-2023-MC valid until December 31, 2024) to 5,600 visitors per day, is due to a study of technical capacity and the demand by those who want to get to know this World Wonder.
