Amid a colorful ceremony, local dancing troupes participated in the Cajamarca Carnival parade held at the northern highland city's Qhapaq Ñan complex last Monday.

The city gathered thousands of national and foreign tourists, who enjoyed the festivity, as well as the shiny costumes made for the occasion.

On the eve of the event, troupes showed their best clothes during the traditional contest featuring a parade that kicked off at around 11:30 AM and ended in the afternoon at 4:30 PM.

Activities will resume on Tuesday at 8:00 PM (local time) with the wake of "Ño Carnavalon," a big head figure that helped people say goodbye to bad vibes during previous days.

People usually throw water, dyes and talcum powder upon one another as the Ño Carnavalon dances to the rhythm of the region's traditional music.
