Peruvian airports supervised by the
Supervisory Board for Investment in Public Transportation Infrastructure (Ositran) welcomed more than 35.6 million passengers in 2023, up 12.8% compared to 2022, when they received 31.6 million.
According to the country's transportation regulator, Jorge Chavez International Airport (AIJC) —operated by Lima Airport Partners (LAP)— saw a significant increase, to 21.2 million passengers (59.6% of the total flow of passengers). It was followed by the First Group of Province Airports —operated by Airports of Peru (AdP)— to 7.2 million (20.1%).
The Second Group of Province Airports —operated by Andean Airports of Peru (AAP)— ranked third, with 3.6 million passengers (10.1%), while the airports operated by the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac) almost reached 3.6 million (10.2%).
Of the total of passengers using airports, 27.4 million (76.9%) represent the national flow, 7.4 million (20.6%) make up the international flow, and 881,786 (2.5%) are transfer passengers.
Busiest airports
The busiest airports were the AIJC (21.25 million), the Cusco airport (3 million), that of Arequipa (2 million), as well as airports in Piura and Tarapoto, both serving over 1.05 million passengers each.
Regarding freight movement, 240,321 metric tons (MT) were reached in 2023, a 1.3% decrease compared to 2022 and 57,256 MT less than in 2019, when 297,577 MT were registered.
Likewise, there were 414,229 landing and takeoff movements, which meant a 4.7% increase in operations compared to 2022, when 395,289 were reached, of which LAP accounted for 41.2%, ADP for 37.1% (increased operations at Pisco and Pucallpa airports), Corpac for 15% (increased operations at Cusco and Nasca airports), and AAP for 6.7%.
Despite the rise in passenger flow registered in the last two years, the pre-pandemic figure (2019) has not yet been reached. At that time, 38.5 million people passed through national airports under the scope of the country's regulator.
