The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Saturday expressed willingness to extend his hand to Congress and establish an agenda for democracy, as well as to work for the benefit of the dispossessed class.

"I am willing once and for all to make this effort, but I extend my hand for the last time so that our political forces make that effort to put this feat for democracy on the agenda," Mr. Castillo expressed.

One year after having taken office, the Head of State renewed his message of optimism and hope, as well as his willingness to continue working and improve opportunities for all Peruvians.

"We received the mandate from the people to close the social gaps that have divided the country and have created first- and second-class citizens despite the fact that we are all equal, and we deserve the same respect and opportunities," he emphasized.

The top official said he was also commissioned to promote the Second Agrarian Reform and support the postponed family farming. As part of this process, he announced that a comprehensive irrigation infrastructure will be implemented in Peru in the coming weeks.

Besides, Mr. Castillo reiterated that he will work for the education sector and economic reactivation.

"In the second year of Government, we will continue working with greater willingness, with greater decision to move the country forward," he affirmed.

Therefore, Mr. Castillo indicated, he swore in new professionals for the Ministerial Cabinet and renewed his confidence in Prime Minister Anibal Torres.

Moreover, the Head of State lamented that Congress had denied him authorization to travel to Colombia for the swearing-in of President-elect Gustavo Petro.

Similarly, he questioned that coup forces request his impeachment from a Congress seat and do not have the courage to do so from a main square.

If this situation continues, the President said, he will be forced to start a national crusade alongside the Peruvian people to defend democracy.

Lastly, Mr. Castillo emphasized that his mandate derives from ballot boxes, adding that he will continue fighting to provide the people with hospitals and schools.
