The restitution of objects took place in a ceremony held at the Embassy of Peru in Switzerland.
The objects are part of Peru's cultural heritage, of the Moche, Chimu, Lambayeque, Huara, Chancay, and Nazca styles developed on the northern, central, and southern coast of the country during the Early Intermediate (200 BC - 600 AD) and Late Intermediate (1000 AD - 1476 AD) periods.
The Ambassador of Peru, Luis Castro Joo, highlighted that this event illustrates the excellent level of cooperation between Peru and Switzerland in various fields, including cultural cooperation.
Moreover, the Peruvian envoy expressed his appreciation for the valuable results of said cooperation, given its positive impact on the studies about Peruvian history.
Present at the ceremony, on behalf of the Swiss government, were Mrs. Fabienne Baraga, Head of the Specialized Body for International Transfers of Cultural Property of the Federal Office of Culture, and Mrs. Sarah Koch, Deputy Regional Coordinator for South America of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
This restitution of cultural heritage takes place within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement between Peru and Switzerland to prevent illicit trafficking of cultural property, signed between the two countries in 2016, in application of the 1970 UNESCO Convention.
