The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday participated in the signing ceremony of the Electoral Ethical Pact inked by the political parties participating in the general elections scheduled for April 11.

The ceremony took place virtually and was hosted by National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Jorge Luis Salas.

Thanks to the Electoral Ethical Pact, political organizations commit themselves to the development of an electoral campaign based on respect, transparency, and other democratic values, taking into account the health emergency situation that the country is currently going through.

In a meeting held in mid-January with representatives of parties, the JNE suggested that the corresponding document should contain 14 commitments, which must be honored by all parties during the electoral campaign.

These approaches include: limiting electoral campaigns to the use of digital platforms and tools, as well as addressing government plans and parliamentary agendas in debates organized by the electoral body.

The 2021 pact will include a commitment regarding the responsible use of social networks, thus avoiding the spread of fake news.
