100 days of quarantine: Over 40,000 stranded Peruvians returned to regions of origin

On the 100th day of the state of emergency —decreed to contain the spread of COVID-19 throughout the country— more than 40,000 Peruvians stranded in Lima returned to their regions of origin since the implementation of humanitarian trips entered into force in April.

It must be noted that the measure complies with the provisions —issued by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM)— to ensure a planned, orderly and safe process.

According to National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) statistics, 42,738 Peruvians returned to their regions of origin thru June 20: 33,792 by land and 8,946 by air.

Transported on a bus, 26,198 citizens left from Lima to other regions: 3,608 departed from other regions to Lima, and 3,986 traveled between regions.

Others were brought back on humanitarian flights: 4,692 Peruvians left from Lima to other regions, and 4,254 departed from other regions to Lima.
