Amb: U.S. seeks to deepen economic relationship with Peru

The United States seeks all possible instruments to deepen the economic and commercial relationship with Peru, U.S. Ambassador to Lima Krishna R. Urs has affirmed.

In this sense, the diplomat said his country and Peru negotiate an agreement to boost U.S. investments under the Growth in the Americas Program.

He underlined the U.S. is interested in continuing to deepen the economic and commercial relations with its counterpart, adding both sides work on that.

According to the latest statistics by Peru's state-run Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion) referring to the foreign direct investment in Peru —as a contribution to capital— the United States ranks fourth (US$2.775 billion), behind Spain (US$4.567 million), the United Kingdom (US$4.364 billion), and Chile (US$3.842 billion).

Recently, the Peruvian Government launched the National Infrastructure Plan for Competitiveness, which includes 52 projects worth close to S/100 billion (about US$29.553 billion).

The U.S. ambassador emphasized that the Growth in the Americas Program aims to increase investment and trade.

Remarks were made after officially launching in the Maximizing Opportunities for Coffee & Cacao in the Americas (MOCCA) Program, which will boost the production of small Peruvian farmers dedicated to these crops.
