The expelled tourists —who left the country through Desaguadero Border Checkpoint in southern Puno region— are Magdalena Abril Retamal (Argentina, age: 20); Leandro Sactiva (Argentina, age: 32); Favian Eduardo Vera Vergara (Chile, age: 30); Marion Lucie Martinez (France, age: 26); and Cristiano da Silva Ribiero (Brazil, age: 30).
According to Digemin, Favian Vera Vergara had an expired tourist visa. He had entered the country through the Santa Rosa Border Checkpoint located in Tacna on August 20, 2019. Also, he had only been allowed to stay in Peru for a period of 30 days.
It must be noted those foreign citizens infringed Paragraph 58.1 of Article 58 of the Migrations Law. They were imposed the maximum penalty, which is expulsion and being barred from the country for a period of 15 years.
The Preparatory Investigation Court of Machu Picchu —led by Judge Aladino Roldan Aparicio Salas— ordered Argentinean Nahuel Gomez —the sixth arrested foreigner— restricted appearance for the alleged crime of destruction of Pre-Hispanic Cultural Heritage and the payment of a bail of S/3,000 (about US$901) in favor of the State, which is due on Friday, January 17.
In addition, the Argentinean citizen is investigated for being the alleged originator of the fall of a lithic rock from the Temple of the Sun, which caused a crack on the ground.
Upon conclusion of the investigations, the National Superintendence of Migrations will apply the corresponding sanctions.
