Peru: Cajamarca receives batch of over 25,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to inoculate elderly

13:44 | Cajamarca (Cajamarca region), May. 13.

The Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) based in Cajamarca has received a batch of 25,740 doses of the vaccine against COVID-19, which will go to people over 80 in more than 13 provinces across this region, and more vaccination teams will be arranged to that end.

Diresa's Deputy Director Rocio Portal reported that the vaccines have been distributed to the provinces of Jaen (7,020 doses) and Cajamarca (18,720 doses) to close the vaccination gap for people over 80 years of age across 13 provinces.

"We have completed the vaccination of people over 80 years in the districts of Cajamarca and Baños del Inca, and we have started vaccinating people between 70 and 79 years," the official said.

Portal noted that this process is carried out according to the specifications set by the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

Minsa determines the priority districts, while Diresa is responsible for verifying all this information before defining the doses distribution chart.

"Cajamarca region relies on 127 districts across 13 provinces. Therefore, we are distributing the vaccines throughout the region," she remarked.

All districts will be gradually covered as more doses arrive, considering that the population group over 80 years of age numbers more than 38,000 in said region.

"We are getting closer to that number as the region has so far received about 35,000 vaccines," Diresa's deputy director explained.
