Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) Executive-President Fiorella Molinelli has inaugurated the new COVID-19 Hospitalization Unit of San Isidro Labrador Hospital in Lima's Ate district. It will serve to increase the care capacity by 48% aimed at providing specialized treatment to an average of 5,600 mild to moderate patients every year.

Molinelli toured the rooms of the modern infrastructure, whose number of beds was expanded from 160 to 200, with highly trained personnel to care for patients infected with the new coronavirus.

The official pointed out that the 40 additional beds are divided into 4 hospitalization rooms, allowing an average of 1,818 patients to be served every year.

Likewise, she pointed out that each of the beds relies on oxygen points that will enable oxygen therapy treatment to be provided to patients with respiratory problems.

Likewise, it has modern medical equipment to provide fast, timely, and high-quality care to each of the insured patients.

The modern infrastructure was built in an area of 600 square meters, which enables EsSalud to serve patients in larger and more comfortable rooms hosting equipment to provide fast, timely, and high-quality care, thus meeting the demand caused by a second wave of infections.

She pointed out that expansion will enable EsSalud to expand the free-of-charge offer.

According to projections, every month they will attend to 467 patients, 151 of whom will be treated in the new hospitalization unit.

The executive-president also recalled that this healthcare establishment had opened its doors 21 years ago (December 21, 1999) as a geriatric hospital.

In March 2020, it became the first healthcare facility of the Almenara Network to become a COVID-19 hospital.

It provides care to more than 4,000 patients offering them hospitalization, intensive Surveillance Unit, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services.
