13:09 | Trujillo (La Libertad region), Apr. 21.

La Libertad region's COVID-19 Command on Wednesday agreed to request a total quarantine for 15 days for Trujillo Province, in order to reduce the high levels of contagion and lethality due to coronavirus, which are registered in the northern region's capital.

This request will be made to Transport and Communications Minister Eduardo Gonzalez, Executive Branch representative for pandemic-related issues in La Libertad, so that he can forward the petition to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

The government official will visit the northern city to meet with local and regional authorities.

Likewise, it was decided to request a larger supply of Pfizer vaccines for La Libertad, based on the storage capacity the region has for the deep freezers available.

Figures

During this meeting, the person in charge of Epidemiology at the Regional Health Directorate, Ana María Burga, indicated that —out of every 100 tests— 35 are positive for COVID-19, adding that there is an average of 315 new infections every day.

The Brazilian variant is producing more lung damage in those infected. In addition, not only age is a risk condition now. Thus, everyone must reinforce care and abide by biosafety measures, she added.

The official said there are not any free ICU beds and the number of infected citizens continues to increase due to the high risk of exposure.

She also mentioned that —while several European countries, given the greater number of registered cases have adopted some restrictions again— the population continues to not comply with biosafety measures in La Libertad.

Besides, there is a large number of people who are exposing themselves to COVID-19 daily. Therefore, infections, lethality, and mortality are worrying.
