Peru: New Health Minister sworn in

Citizen Maria Elizabeth Hinostroza was on Monday afternoon sworn in by President Martin Vizcarra as the new Health Minister of Peru.

The new Ministry head is a doctor by profession and holds the rank of general of the National Police of Peru (PNP) since 2017.

She is the first woman who has reached this police position in the country.

The new cabinet member is a medical surgeon graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM).

She will be part of the cabinet led by Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos and thus replace Zulema Tomas, who stepped down from the post on November 15.

The former high-ranking official had led the health portfolio since January 7, 2019.

The ceremony took place at Lima-based Government Palace. It saw the presence of some ministers.
