Peru's top striker Paolo Guerrero will not play until the end of 2020, the Brazilian Sport Club Internacional of Porto Alegre announced after the athlete got injured on Sunday during a match in the neighboring country.

Thus, Peru's all-time leading goalscorer becomes the most important injured player on the Peruvian national team ahead of the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers.

He suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee in the Sunday match against Fluminense for the Brasileirão.

After an hour of the game, the Peruvian —who had scored a goal— fought for a ball against Fluminense defender Claro, causing him an injury.

The blow landed on Guerrero's right knee and he had to leave on a stretcher. The extent of his injury will be revealed on Tuesday.

The results provided by the Brazilian club indicate that the Peruvian forward will undergo a surgery and will miss the rest of the 2020 season.
