Peru PM urges citizens to report cases of violence against women

Peruvian Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos on Thursday called on the population to report the cases of aggression against women, so that the State can act in a comprehensive and immediate way in such cases.

The Head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) thus referred to the recent episode registered in Lima's La Victoria district, where a man tried to burn his partner with gasoline, after being released due to the decision made by a prosecutor.

"Women Minister Gloria Montenegro has already addressed the matter and arranged actions immediately. We reject and condemn such situations," Zeballos expressed.

The institutions, he said, articulate their work in the best way on the issue of aggression against female citizens by "not only by preventing and informing, but also acting immediately in the face of these unfortunate events."

The head of the Cabinet made these statements from Huancavelica, where he participated in the putting into operation of 50 warm homes from Mi Abrigo (My Warm Shelter) Project.

A total of 156 such homes are built in the Andean region in areas located at altitudes of over 3,500 m.a.s.l.

Commitment

At the event, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the commitment of President Martin Vizcarra's Government to be present in the most remote areas of the country and for the population to feel that the State is not absent from those places.

"The State cannot be absent, it must be by your side. Geography cannot be a circumstance that separates us, quite the contrary, it has to be an opportunity that involves us," he stated.

The high-ranking official deemed as important ending centralism and building a country under a territorial approach, which takes into account the uniqueness of each part of Peru.
