Peru President: Investigation was shelved twice

15:22 | Tambopata (Madre de Dios region), Dec. 5.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed that the investigation into an alleged irregular payment during his tenure as Moquegua Region Governor was shelved twice by the Public Ministry.

As he stated, a prosecutor's investigation was conducted from 2015 to 2017 and was shelved because there was no ground for an accusation. The inquiry was reopened in 2018 but was shelved again.

"What is absolutely clear is that all steps and procedures were conducted in accordance with the law and administrative rules that govern the execution of public works," he told the press.

Moreover, the Head of State affirmed that he is willing to be investigated and that he has no problem with an eventual reopening of investigations.

"We are open to a new inquiry," he stated.

Remarks were made in rainforest Madre de Dios region, where he supervised the forest recovery works in Tambopata National Reserve.
