Peru President joins Ibero-American Summit

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra arrived in La Antigua on Thursday to join other Heads of State and Government at the 26th Ibero-American Summit.

Under the theme "A thriving, inclusive, and sustainable Ibero-America," the summit will provide an opportunity to promote national interests lying within development, cooperation, peace, and security objectives of the Peruvian State's foreign policy.

The gathering will also address issues of particular relevance to the Inca nation, including climate change.

Within this framework, the Head of State held a working meeting with Guatemalan Vice-President Jafeth Cabrera.

Both dignitaries highlighted the excellent relations uniting the two countries and expressed their willingness to continue strengthening joint efforts to improve the bilateral FTA.

On Friday, President Vizcarra will attend the I and II Heads of State and Government sessions, as well as the Pro-Tempore Secretary handing over and closing ceremonies.

Also attended by Spain, Portugal, and Andorra, the event will place special emphasis on the search for mechanisms to complement the efforts undertaken by countries to fulfill the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Furthermore, bilateral meetings on foreign policy matters are expected within this framework.
