The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday called on the branches of the Peruvian State to put aside their differences, look at the country —which seeks justice— and meet its most urgent needs.

"Let us no longer turn our backs on the homeland, which demands that its needs be met," the Head of State emphasized.

"The pandemic has exposed the precariousness of the health system. Over 230,000 compatriots are no longer with us. This would not have happened if previous governments had invested in the primary care level and if they had declared (the right to) health as a constitutional right," he added.

On Tuesday afternoon, the top official received —at the Government Palace in Lima— discharged members of the Armed Forces who confronted terrorism between the 1980s and 2000s.

During the event, he announced that the Government will meet the demands of these citizens, who request to be regarded as defenders of the homeland and to access the benefits that this implies.

The dignitary explained that the Executive Branch and the organizations where discharged soldiers serve have formed a working group to address the problems they face.

"The vindication will become effective on Wednesday afternoon. We will sign this tomorrow. We will not only summon the Ministries of Defense and Interior, we must get the entire Cabinet involved," he underlined.

Mr. Castillo also affirmed that discharged soldiers have a family to support, needs, children to educate; so, in response to this, he stressed the need to achieve true development to ensure the health and education of all Peruvians, as well as open admission to universities.
