Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Roberto Sanchez has reported that his sector is concentrating efforts to recover and revitalize domestic tourism, in addition to supporting incoming tourism, under strict biosafety protocols.

"Significant progress has been made in the granting of Safe Travels stamps in all regions across Peru. In total, 52 destinations, 458 tourist attractions, and 7,892 tourism service providers have been certified (with this stamp)," the government official remarked.

Additionally, he stressed the efforts made under the initiative "Peru is its regions," launched within the framework of the Tourism Month.

"Through this initiative, we seek to stimulate domestic tourism, combining a series of efforts to promote tourist attractions in the country and to ensure that biosafety protocols are followed," the minister stated.

Sectoral competitiveness

The Cabinet member affirmed that his sector is working to improve tourism competitiveness, through actions like 'FAE-Tourism,' 'We are Handicrafts,' and 'Tourism Starts up.'

The latter has launched a call to disburse S/18 million (about US$4.3 million) to tourism-related micro and small-sized enterprises (MSEs) throughout the country.

He also noted that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) is undertaking activities to promote and consolidate a range of sustainable destinations, such as Towns with Charm, Community-based Tourism, Social Tourism, as well as CITEs on Tourism and Handicrafts.

In addition, the high-ranking official highlighted the work carried out by Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) and the Center for Training in Tourism (Cenfotur). He also underlined that specialized tourism products and thematic routes are being prepared.

Sanchez revealed that there is an important portfolio of investments under the National Copesco Plan. "The 2022 investment budget exceeds S/82 million (about US$20 million)."

Remarks were made during his virtual participation in a session of the Congress' Foreign Trade and Tourism Commission.
