Visits to museums and archaeological monuments, such as
Machu Picchu, within regions under very high and extreme alert, will be suspended from January 31 to February 14, in order to comply with the mandatory social immobilization decreed by the Government to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Ministry of Culture (Mincul) has reported.
Mincul-operated museums that will be open to guests include Chan Chan Site Museum, the Huacas of the Sun and Moon Archaeological Complex, and the Huaca El Brujo Archaeological Complex in La Libertad region, as well as the Brüning National Archaeological Museum in Lambayeque region.
The list also includes the Huaca Chotuna-Chornancap Site Museum, the Huaca Rajada-Sipan Site Museum, the Tucume Site Museum, and the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum in Lambayeque region, as well as the Amazon Museum in Loreto region.
The visit to site museums in Lambayeque region includes the archaeological monuments of Chotuna-Chornancap, Huaca Rajada, and Tucume.
Purchased tickets
In Cusco region, visits have been suspended at Casa Garcilaso Regional Historical Museum, as well as at pre-Hispanic monuments, such as Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Pisac, Moray, Qenqo, Pikillaqta, Raqchi, Sacsayhuaman, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay, Tipon, and other archaeological parks, from January 31 to February 14.
Those who purchased tickets for the above-mentioned dates will be able to reschedule their visits throughout the year or get a refund.
Regarding the preservation of collections at museums located in areas under high and very high alert, the corresponding activities shall be carried out at the museum facilities, while in those under extreme alert, a special labor permit can be applied for, pursuant to
Legislative Decree No. 1467.
