President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed that vaccination is an essential stage in the fight against COVID-19, as it will serve to immunize the population. Therefore, he said, the Government is putting a lot of effort into this matter.

"We are making progress little by little, but let's not be triumphalist. We must continue making efforts until we have the vaccine," he expressed after mentioning that its future arrival in the country does not depend so much on the Government but on the laboratories working on it.

The President recalled that the administrative system —being too careful— is very rigorous on the issue of vaccines, for which the Executive Branch submitted a bill to Congress in order to expedite the authorization once the vaccine is ready.

Meeting with Congress Chairman

As the President remarked, in the meeting held yesterday with Congress Chairman Manuel Merino, he promised to prioritize said legislative initiative.

In addition, Mr. Vizcarra stressed that he shared with Merino the idea of working on joint proposals to solve the problems of citizens in this pandemic.

The Head of State also stressed that he deemed as "over" the episode of the presidential impeachment motion, which was finally rejected by the majority of legislators, thus reaffirming that the population wants its authorities to work united.

After ratifying his critical view on the arguments and the rapid way in which the aforementioned vacancy had been processed, the top official recalled that in a democracy people can disagree but not fall into confrontations.
