Peruvian superfoods displayed at Prodexpo 2021

18:34 | Moscow (Russia), May. 11.

Peruvian superfoods were exhibited at Prodexpo, one of the largest exhibitions in Russia and the most important fair in Eastern Europe in the field of food and beverages.

At the event, the Peruvian delegation —led by Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru)— showcased natural and healthy products.

"In 2020, Peruvian exports to Russia amounted to US$136 million, US$94 million of which came from agro-exports. In this context, Peruvian superfoods sales totaled US$78 million, a growth of 55% from the year before," PromPeru Executive-President Amora Carbajal indicated.

This year's event has brought together the best of 12 Peruvian companies' exportable supply, including quinoa, chia, maca, eggfruit, among others, which caught the attention of the food industry and the HORECA channel (hotel, restaurant, and catering), mainly food establishments using quinoa and chia in their cooking.

It must be noted that participating companies —mostly SMEs from Lima, Madre de Dios, and Junin— have taken part in the different activities coordinated by the Export Route program, such as commercial platforms and virtual business roundtables, which have proven to be the main tool for internationalization in this health situation.

Prodexpo displays foods from all over the world, from everyday basics and drinks to gourmet delicacies, as well as organic, sports nutrition, nutrition for a healthy lifestyle, halal, kosher, and exotic products, etc.

This activity, which took place under the Superfoods Peru brand, was framed within the institution's strategy of promoting the Peruvian exportable supply, as well as the internationalization of companies in the foreign market.

Prodexpo is one of the largest international food and beverage events in Russia and Eastern Europe. This edition featured 1,500 exhibitors from 42 countries and drew 68,000 visitors over five days.
