President Castillo asks entrepreneurs to invest in Peru, confidently and without doubt

17:22 | Washington D.C. (U.S.), Sep. 20.

In his address to a group of entrepreneurs in Washington D.C. (U.S.) on Monday, the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo affirmed that Peru has the doors open for them, so he asked them to invest in the country confidently and without doubt, but with clear rules and respecting the rights of Peruvians.

"We have not come here to scare off capitals and investments. Go invest in Peru confidently, without doubt and fear. Peru is huge; it offers different climates and productivity," the Head of State told them.

"We need to be a single family. Peruvians must understand that a State cannot move forward without private investment," he added.

Such investment —he said— requires transparency, clear rules, as well as respect for workers and rights of the population.

In addition, the Peruvian leader thanked the OAS for acknowledging the triumph of "this son of the people," referring to the report presented by the Electoral Observation Mission of this organization, on Peru's last general elections.

He also thanked OAS for being firm and not allowing others to set its agenda, since democracy implies an open, genuine, and voluntary participation of the people and its organizations.

"Democracy cannot allow a spirit of discrimination. I am a teacher. I studied at a school with cracked walls. The parents at the community still use a lantern, as there is no electricity. Many families do not have a water faucet. The parents at the community continue to cultivate the land and wait for rain to plant, but when they produce, they cannot deliver their products to the market," Peru's top official commented.

According to the President, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that economic growth has not been balanced with development, as growth is observed in one side, while in others —without water and electricity— schools collapse and farmers lose their production as they cannot get to the markets.

Mr. Castillo's statements were made on Monday morning as he participated at the OAS Permanent Council session in Washington D.C.
