The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday night affirmed that he will continue working until the last day of his administration (July 28, 2021) seeking the best for the country and all its citizens.

"I will not accept any lies or distortion of my words and actions by the enemies of democracy. I will continue with my efforts to seek the best for our country, and I will do so until the last minute of my term in office," he emphasized.

Via Twitter, the President indicated that the task of a Head of State is to enable the nation to maintain serenity and calm in difficult and complex moments.

"(…) I communicated with several people who, I knew, have contact with both candidates. My request was the same to both: lower the tension and wait for the official results. One of them was (writer) Mario Vargas Llosa," he recalled.

In this sense, the top official deplored the distortion and misinterpretation of an action aimed at maintaining tranquility in such a polarized, complex, and difficult moment "full of lies and distortions," such as the one the nation is going through.

Peruvians went to the polls to elect a new President of the Republic in the runoff election on June 6. Whoever wins the election will become Mr. Sagasti's successor and take office on July 28, 2021.
